An example write-up of goals, tasks, and celebrations ... just sharing some ideas here!

Here’s an example of 3-Month Goals, 1-Month Goals, Tasks, and Celebrations in action. Feel free to copy and paste these main categories and adapt to your own needs!

3-Month Goal(s)

What major goal do you want to accomplish in the coming 3 months? It’s usually best to have a unified 3-Month Goal for the team, and it’s great to have sub-goals for each person on the team.

EXAMPLE:
• 3-Month Goal: Our 3-month goal in Startup X is to launch a beta product that has at least 20 users, with an average NPS (net promoter score) of at least 8 after 2 weeks of using the product.
Sam: Focus on getting interviews and commitments from the “Nour” (16-year-old techie teenager) Customer Persona
Gerry: Focus on getting interviews and commitments from the “Manu” (20-year-old university student) Customer Persona.

1-Month Goal(s)

The 1-month goals should be milestones along the path to the 3-month goal. How do you measure progress towards your 3-month goal?

If you really want to lay out a solid plan, you can look ahead and lay out what you think necessary to accomplish in Month 1, and Month 2, on the way to achieving your 3-Month Goal.

EXAMPLE:
By end of Month 1:
• Month 1 - Goal 1: Product sketches done, with at least 10 customer interviews done that are promising enough to show that we are on the right track, meaning that at least 10 of the customer interviews need to lead to people saying that they are certainly willing and excited to be part of our beta roll-out. We anticipate having to do at least 3-4 iterations of the design, with customer interviews at different stages, to get to our 10 yesses by the end of Month 1.

By end of Month 2:
• Month 2 - Goal 1: 30 customer interviews completed with agreement (enthusiasm) to join beta roll-out (anticipating that of 30 confirmed, we will have 20 active beta participants).
• Month 2 - Goal 2: Draft designs completed (final versions completed in Month 3)
• Month 2 - Goal 3: Communications Plan complete and approved by team, mentors, and coaches (draft should be presented latest in Week 3 of Month 2 for review and feedback). Content for Communications Plan will be finalized in Month 3.

One-Week Goal(s)

What do you need to do THIS WEEK to make sure you’re on track for the 1-month goal, and the 3-month goal? Making things quantifiable helps a lot, and helps make things more clear within the team, and with the mentors and advisors.

One Week Goals:
• 10 interviews completed on first round of sketches / designs.
• BONUS: 5 interviews done on updated / second set of sketches/designs.
• Notes from all interviews written up and shared with the team.

Tasks

What needs to happen to hit your 1-Week Goals? Does each person on the team have clear tasks that are aligned with the Goals?

This week: Create a schedule to share with the team to make the path clear.

Celebration(s)

It’s great to celebrate small victories! In fact, all big victories are made up of lots of small achievements along the way, and celebrating the small victories helps give us motivation and stamina for the long journey, making the BIG VICTORIES all the more likely.

So, how would you like to celebrate the different victories along the way?
• Achieving the different Tasks? (Some light “celebration”? High Fives, take a break, phone a friend, get a coffee, 5-10 minutes checking your social media, etc…)
• Achieving the Weekly Goals? (Still modest, but a bit better than the Tasks Celebration  )
• Achieving your 1-Month Goals?
• Achieving your 3-Month Goals? (Something big and fun! And hey, maybe invite your Bootcamp Anywhere friends to join as well! )

Does that help? Thoughts on how you could use this process, or adapt it for your own team? Please share your ideas or other examples here!
